Molly & Little Boy wrestling

Molly, as sweet as can be, definitely the agressor in this battle!
Sorry this one is a little grainy... not sure why.

Christmas Puppy!

Merry Christmas family! Here is a video of the children and their first sight of the tree xmas morning. Not quite the screams of delight we were anticipating (still groggy, aubrey said he felt like he was going to puke - the fun never ends!), but lots of OMG's and smiles... we LOVE our new little puppy! (no name yet - suggestions? we're calling him 'little boy' for now!) He is so so sweet, mellow, and very well behaved. So far so good with the potty business, although I suppose it's tough to have an accident when you are being carried everywhere! The dust has settled, and the kids keep pinching themselves (and me too) over little boy (: It was wonderful to talk to some of you yesterday, and hope all of you had a joyful Christmas!

And here's another video... Aubrey really does *love* little boy, and has bonded with him well today... lol!

My First Quilt

So, I finally did it! I have successfully finished my very first quilt, EVER! What a great feeling! I made it into a crib size quilt and am going to give it to Joy and Dave for their new baby, Parker. Starting out small was an excellent idea, and now I have to battle the larger one! But it was a blast and everyone keeps telling me I need to start a business! If only it would pay the bills....oh well. :)

Weekend with Chris and Em

Well Jon and I had the pleasure of spending the weekend with Chris and Emily! We met them in Cassel, CA, which is approx. 50 miles northwest of Redding (5 hour drive north of San Francisco). They hiked in a 30 mile day (their biggest yet) to make it in Friday night. We hiked 4 miles on Saturday in the blistering heat and then went swimming and drank lots of beer. We fed them steaks and pasta and shrimp and fresh veggies and fruit until they could hardly move they were so full. And sadly, on Sunday we put them back on the trail and headed home to SF. They are more than half way done and have the hardest part behind them, so they seemed in good spirits.

Maggie's Quilt project

Well Maggie is not aware I am posting this but I wanted to show everyone how awesome her work is going. She is currently following a blog online with her sisters and in the process of making a quilt. She has had this sewing machine for a long time and now it finally is going to get some use. From the looks of it we are in for some real cool stuff. Our house at times looks like a sweat shop minus the small children slaving away, but if the work load piles up we have talked about getting a couple children in there to work long hours and for little pay. ha ha just kidding. let us know what you think of the Quilt...

the BIG (umpf) BAD (umpf) SQUIRREL!!!

Aubrey and Sam before the show....

The 2nd grade class performed the muscial 'NUTS'. Aubrey held the highly coveted role of one of the Big Bad Squirrels. It was a fantastic show - above average for 2nd graders I'd say!
Unfortunately I didn't get any good action shots due to the fact that I picked the wrong side of the audience to sit in.... if there's a 50/50 chance, I usually end up the underdog (:

Hanging by a thread.... literally....!

It's out now, but me oh my. That tooth was hanging around for a long time... didn't want to come out. I couldn't pull it - I'd rather squash a spider than pull a tooth! Thank goodness Shannon is braver than me. Second tooth out! (see it's replacement already in behind it? Now accepting orthodonture donations -lol!)

Hello from Wrightwood

Hello all! Beetle and I are in Wrightwood, 369 trail miles from the border. We hitched in this morning, filled our bellies with giant breakfasts, and as we were looking for a laundromat, we met a nice couple named Rob and Ann. After informing us that there WAS no laundromat, they invited us over to their place to do our laundry, have a shower, and check our email. Rob also offered me up a tallboy Coors Light, that I couldn't possibly refuse, even if it was only 11am. This last section, 105 miles from Big Bear, we did in 5 days and a few hours this morning, so we're getting in shape and starting to really move. Our feet are much improved as well. Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the beginnings of summertime. Next stop for us is Agua Dulce. Cheers!

You might Remember

Hello Bauernfeind Family,

Some of you may remember a friend that Maggie and I made while fly out to Kentucky to ask George for permission for me to marry Maggie, Bridgette Nguyen. Bridgette and her boyfriend Michael attended our wedding and if you were lucky enough to get to speak with her you might have learned she is quite the proficient chef. She was on the food network a couple months back in a burger competition and places second there. Well she has been entering many cooking competitions since and recently won the national chicken cooking competition, which she won the grand prize of $50,000. She has really made a name for her self in Lexington and is now doing a daily show on LEX18 at 12:30pm show casing her talents and tasty recipes. I thought I would include a link to her site so you can all see what amazing work she does and help promote her tasty cooking. She is a very sweet and genuine person whom I am honored to have as a friend. Every time we are able, we meet up at a restaurant to share amazing food and catch up on life. We even spent time with them in Lexington at her home and she cooked an amazing dinner for us. She is open to ideas and will help with any cooking questions you may have. Visit her site and enjoy the cooking fun.

Well, I had my first Derby experience. Pete & Katherine Ward were generous enough to invite us to the his dad's box for both the Oaks and the Derby. We had an incredible time. I drank more bourbon in 2 days than I have ever had in my life. Our seats were outstanding. A few celebrity sightings...Bobby Flay 2 boxes down from us. We ended the weekend with a great brunch back at the house with Steph and Josh. A little work around the house, dinner and then Greg & I were headed back to Chicago. Oh, and yes Greg finally got to drive the 911... and as Sally greeted us as we were pulling into the garage I believe she was a little shocked to see that I was in the driver seat...yes, I took it for a little spin myself... :)

a crafty weekend

Well, to no avail, this post is backwards. This is what we made this weekend! (Will someone help me figure out how to put pics WHERE I want them?!)
Callie worked very hard hand-stitching this beautiful fabric fruit bowl together.

Rolling and stitching as we go...

This week is teacher appreciation week at school. Tomorrow is 'bring fruit for your teach day'. Callie & I decided to make this fabric bowl that we had previously seen the pattern for on the web as an Easter basket. Callie selected her fabrics, and I cut the 1 1/2 inch strips. We then proceeded to wrap the fabric strips around 8 yards (yup, that IS 24 feet!) of cotton cording.
It was a fun project ~ we bonded in the crafty way, and that's always a good thing (:

And they're off!

Dad and I took these pictures of Chris and Emily as they were preparing to begin their PCT hike. Note the US/Mexican border (wall) in the background.

Ooops... here are the long hair action shots!

I thanked her for the pictures, and she thanked ME for the pictures (:
